Never has the jailbreak community responded in such huge numbers to the release of a jailbreak, and although the community was, many feared, beginning to dwindle following a few months of apparent nothingness, these figures more than prove just how many people have been anticipating a jailbreak.

Indeed, Saurik's web server was lambasted by thousands of hits as shared by the man himself on Twitter, and Cydia for a short while, ground to a halt under all of the pressure. While the Cydia servers have always performed well, there's no legislation for millions of eager jailbreakers bursting through the doors, but with things having now calmed down and the very avid breakers having got their fill, things are starting to return to an emollient state.

Meanwhile, pod2g also shared some information on evasi0n.com's hit rate. The site was created especially for the release of the tool, and unless you've been living under a rock for the past week-and-a-bit, you will have been unable to avoid the coverage of the jailbreak's progress. As you can see below, the number of visits remained steady throughout last week, with users whimsically checking for updates. There was a noticeable soar in hits on Feb 3rd (Super Bowl Sunday) when it was presumed the jailbreak was arriving thanks to a strong hint from MuscleNerd, but once it was confirmed as arriving on Monday, number of eyes on the prize remained high:

The Evasi0n jailbreak, arrived in a hail of glory yesterday, and although the wait was tantalizing for those accustomed to Cydia and its treasure trove or tweaks, everything – bar the predictable unpredictability of the Weather (app) – went as planned for the team of Evad3rs. Saurik, also known as Jay Freeman, is the mastermind behind Cydia, and, following a manic first 24 hours, has shared some interesting stats with regards to the jailbreak, notably that its reach is already approaching the two million mark.

Granted, as Saurik himself concedes to Forbes, the numbers are not totally accurate, but paint a fairly vivid picture of how successful the Evasi0n jailbreak iOS 6 has been hitherto. In the first six hours alone, the tool had been used to jailbreak some 800,000 iPhone and other iOS devices, with newer devices such as the iPhone 5 handed their very first taste of the Cydia experience.
