Microsoft Releases Official Windows 10 Ninjacat Wallpapers

Windows 10 may be Microsoft’s most adventurous operating system undertaking to date, but bizarrely it’s not the software itself that has managed to capture the attention of the Internet. The release of the product is only a week away, but in a rather strange twist it’s actually an unbelievably awesome ninjacat saddled on a number of mythical beasts that has managed to garner all of the attention over the last few days. Microsoft seems perfectly happy to play up to that attention by releasing a number of fantastic wallpapers featuring the unexplainably cool ninjacat.

Excitement is clearly building for the launch of Windows 10. The latest build distributed to Windows 10 Insiders has reportedly resulted in the highest satisfaction rate of any build to-date. This information has been collected by Microsoft pop-up surveys and gives the company a great deal of positivity heading into the big release day. So much positivity in fact that it has time to enjoy a little down time by releasing these official wallpapers that show the Windows 10 “unofficial” mascot riding three proud steeds; a fire breathing unicorn, a narwhal complete with pierced bacon, and a rather terrifying Tyrannosaurus Rex.

In an official blog post, Microsoft’s Gabe Aul joked that the Internet “seems to be entirely powered by cats”, and that Windows Insiders have appeared to have been having a lot of fun with the ninjacat during the development and testing process of Windows 10. In fact, he goes on to say that ninjacat has seemingly become a “fun icon” for Windows 10 and Microsoft. The three wallpapers, which all show the ninjacat riding an impressive steed, is apparently intended to convey the fact that Windows 10 is a universal operating system that is built to run across a family of devices, including desktop machines, smartphones, tablets and game consoles.

As part of the release Microsoft has provided the brilliant ninjacat wallpapers in various resolutions intended for various devices and platforms. Downloads range from a whopping 3840 x 2160 to a rather depressing 310 x 102 designed for the Microsoft Band fitness device.

Here’s what the wallpapers look like:
