DOTTI Is A Cool Little Smartphone-Connected LED Block That Does Notifications Using Pixel Art

There are literally an unlimited number of accessories that you can purchase to function in conjunction with your smartphone, but the trend is increasingly banking towards the ‘smart’ aspect of the accessories in question. We have contraption like the Philips Hue bulbs and other home automation devices that can be controlled by using a smartphone. If those things don’t tickle your fancy, then how about tackling DOTTI, a small and compact little pixel light system that displays notifications received on a smartphone in a new and truly effective way.

DOTTI is sized as your typical side table alarm clock but what it packs is a set of squares, lit by LEDs at the back that kick in when a notification or alert is receive on your smartphone. The small little cube-like box features built-in LED bulbs that are utilized by the connected iPhone or Android device to display the icon of an app delivering a notification to the device. There’s also a neat little animation that accompanies that notification, but that’s not all.

One of the great things about DOTTI is that if the app icon that you wish to display notifications for doesn’t exist, then it’s easy to create your own icon and saving it using the accompanying DOTTI mobile app for Android and iOS. Alternatively, there’s also the added benefit of crowd-sourced creations as well, which basically means that if an app icon has already been created by the DOTTI community on the Witti Gallery, then it can be downloaded and utilized with minimal fuss.

In addition to serving up the app icon as a new take on notifications, the hardware also functions as a clock, and here’s the best part; it reacts to music playback with an animated spectrum analyzer of sorts, and can even be used as rolling dice if you see fit. DOTTI is clearly multi versatile for a number of different use cases.

The product itself weighs in at a minuscule 82 grams, and comes equipped with a wireless range of approximately 50-feet thanks to the Bluetooth 4.0 connection. In pure notification mode, DOTTI claims to last up to 720 hours before needing to be recharged via the integrated micro USB port.
