Cydia Installer And Cydia Substrate For iOS 9 Released

The extremely surprising release of an iOS 9 jailbreak across all compatible devices may have come as a shock to many of us due to it being released without prior warning or demonstration, but it looks like a number of insiders may have known about it beforehand. The jailbreak scene can often seem divided at times with those researching and providing the actual jailbreak tools seemingly working against other prominent figures in the community. That doesn’t appear to be the case this time as Jay Freeman, a.k.a Saurik, has provided significant updates to the Cydia Installer and Cydia Substrate to work with the latest Pangu Team jailbreak.

There’s been occasions in the past where a jailbreak solution has been released for a certain set of devices running a certain firmware and Cydia Installer or Cydia Substrate just haven’t been ready. This doesn’t appear to be the case this time, with Saurik himself using the Cydia Substrate change log to mention that there has been “massive internal changes” made to version 0.9.6000 to be compatible with the latest iOS 9 Pangu Team jailbreak solution. Those changes mean that Substrate should play nice with iOS 9 for all of those opting to use this new jailbreak.

Cydia Substrate 0.9.6000 has made massive internal changes to be compatible with the latest jailbreak for iOS 9 from Pangu.

In addition to changes made to Cydia Substrate, the Cydia Installer, which is essentially the main portal through which all post jailbreak goodness happens, has also been updated to offer immediate compatibility with iOS 9. The benefit of an immediately functioning Cydia Installer to those who plan on going down the iOS 9 jailbreak route is that there shouldn’t be any additional work required after jailbreaking the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to be able to get up and running with tweaks.

Cydia 1.1.24 fixes some bugs and is designed for the new iOS 9 jailbreak.

With that said, Cydia is still very much a piece of work in transition as Saurik and those who assist him work to iron out bugs that have arisen from having to make wholesale changes to the way that Cydia works internally. Version 1.1.24 of the installer has managed to rectify a number of issues that were introduced with 1.1.23, but it’s likely that there are still some issues that could manifest themselves. With those changes being made it’s now time for developers to start introducing compatibility for their tweaks and extensions for iOS 9.

It’s fair to say that the release of the Pangu Team jailbreak for iOS 9 took the majority of us by surprise, including most developers who offer and maintain packages, so it’ll take a little while for that compatibly to filter through.
