Apple today has finally released the very final version of iPhone OS 4 (now renamed to iOS 4.0), along with SDK for iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS and iPod touch 2G/3G. Members enrolled in the iPhone Developer Standard or Enterprise program can access the bits right now, while the public will get it via the latest version of iTunes soon.
We have already seen iOS 4.0 Beta 4 (formerly iPhone OS 4) being successfully jailbroken and unlocked on iPhone 3GS and 3G using ultrasn0w and blacksn0w. But for this final release of iOS 4, both the tools are likely going to get an upgrade soon to make them full compatible. The iPhone Dev Team has already promised a full carrier unlocking solution sometime this month for 05.12.01 baseband. Geohot might also update blacksn0w unlock for this latest firmware, which has already been successfully ported to the Beta 4 of iOS 4.
Since Apple has renamed iPhone OS 4 to iOS 4, we thought we will update our jailbreaking guide for iOS 4.0 for both iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS. The redsn0w 0.9.5b4 which was released for iPhone OS 4 Beta 4 (now iOS 4) will need an update to work with this version of iOS 4. But the instructions to jailbreak would remain the same.
