Apple’s OLED MacBook Pro Will Be Limited To Its Best Models

Apple continues to be rumored to be working on its first-ever MacBook Pro with an OLED display, but a new report suggests buyers will have to pick up the more expensive CPU models to get it.

According to Mark Gurman, writing for his Bloomberg Power On newsletter, the new OLED MacBook Pro will be limited to the M6 Pro and M6 Max chips.

That means that buyers of the entry-level M6 model will have to make do with a non-OLED display.

Gurman also notes that a “revamped M6 Pro and M6 Max MacBook Pro with an OLED display” will have a thinner design with touch support included. The current timeframe has Apple aiming for a late 20206 or early 2027 release window.

With Apple’s 16-inch MacBook Pro models starting with a Pro chip with an optional Max upgrade, this news will likely only impact potential buyers of the 14-inch model. That’s assuming that Apple doesn’t chose to revamp the way its MacBook Pro lineup shakes out, of course.

Along with the new OLED displays, the news that these will be the first Macs with touchscreen support will be interesting for potential buyers. Apple has so far avoided bringing touch to the Mac, leaving buyers who prefer not to use a mouse or trackpad to buy an iPad instead.
