Apple is reportedly working on a new, more capable version of its Siri digital assistant that will be powered by Google’s Gemini. The deal will see Apple pay Google around $1 billion per year.
That’s according to a Bloomberg report which says that Apple’s money will get it access to a 1.2 trillion parameter artificial intelligence model built by Google.

Bloomberg notes that the 1.2 trillion-parameter model will be significantly larger than the models Apple currently has access to.
The custom Gemini system represents a major advance from the 150 billion parameter model used today for the cloud-based version of Apple Intelligence. The move would vastly expand the system’s power and its ability to process complex data and understand context.
While Apple has decided to side with Google, Bloomberg reports that it had initially considered models from Open AI and Anthropic before settling on Google’s offering.
It’s thought that Apple intends to use Google’s model as it continues to work on its own in-house version that would ultimately replace it — saving Apple $1 trillion per year in the process.
With all of this in mind, rumors of a big Siri upgrade being announced at WWDC in Spring 2026 mean that Apple has its work cut out to be ready. Bloomberg warns Apple’s plans could change ahead of the Siri revamp’s expected announcement.
