Apple is expected to announce the iPhone 18 Pro devices later this year, but before then, the iPhone 17e is expected to break cover within the next month or so and a new leak has detailed what we should expect in terms of display technology — including both good and bad news.
According to a MacRumors report citing information gleaned from leaker Digital Chat Station, the iPhone 17e will have a 6.1-inch OLED display using the older 60Hz refresh rate that the iPhone 17 upgraded to 120Hz in September last year.
The report also notes that the iPhone 17e will have a Dynamic Island, something the iPhone 16e missed out on and immediately gave away its budget orientation.
With the iPhone 17e replacing the iPhone 16e’s notch with a Dynamic Island, the new phone will appear more premium than its predecessor. The phone will also look more at home alongside the rest of the iPhone 17 lineup.
As for the rest of the specs that this cheaper iPhone option will have, the leaker claims that an underclocked version of the A19 chip will be used.
It’s likely Apple will use chips that wouldn’t normally meet the standards required to be used in the iPhone 17, and will instead be more akin to the iPhone 15 Pro’s A17 Pro chip with additional Neural Engine goodies bolted on to aid Apple Intelligence performance.
