Apple’s iOS 27 Will Be All About Battery Life And Tweaks, Report Claims

Apple is expected to announce its iOS 27 update at WWDC in June, but a new report suggests that it will focus on battery life and tweaks rather than new features.

According to Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman, iOS 27 is codenamed Rave internally and will focus on stripping out unnecessary code to streamline the software. Part of that will also include improving battery life compared to previous releases.

As part of the work on iOS 27 — code-named Rave within Apple — engineers are making improvements that could boost battery life, I’m told. The company hopes that underlying code changes will result in efficiency gains that will end up giving users more juice. If Apple does indeed pull off these improvements, it’s unclear if the company will market the changes — or if this is just a benefit of cleaning things up.

One of the reasons for Apple’s focus on improving the code that powers iOS 27 is that the company has an eye on its big 2026 iPhone updates, the report claims.

Apple is expected to announce its first foldable iPhone this fall, and a focus on a more efficient iOS is thought to be part of those plans.

The report also believes that Apple will continue to focus on Apple Intelligence and improving Apple’s AI features. The company has fallen behind its competitors in that regard, and iOS 27 will be another component of its attempt to catch up.
