Apple announced at WWDC 2025 that it was working on bringing video playback support to CarPlay, and now the first steps of that process are visible in the first iOS 26.4beta.
Apple made the first beta available for download by developers yesterday, and MacRumors reports that it has the first signs of video playback support for AirPlay.

The first iOS 26.4 beta seeded to developers today includes a number of new references to CarPlay video playback, including features like onboarding flows, notifications, and more.
The new CarPlay support for AirPlay is set to include the Apple TV app initially, with references already found in the first iOS 26.4 beta. However, we can also expect third-party apps that support AirPlay to come online in the future, too.
However, the report notes that there is no evidence currently as to whether Apple plans to launch the new feature soon or if it will be a future update further down the line.
It’s important to remember that iOS 26.4 is currently in beta, so it will not be released to the public for a number of weeks yet. And even then, there is no guarantee that the CarPlay AirPlay feature will ship when iOS 26.4 is made available to the world, either.
It’s also worth remembering that Apple will require carmakers to allow support for streaming content to their in-vehicle displays, too.
