Apple’s AirDrop has long been a quick and reliable way for people to send and receive files from one device to another. But it only worked with Apple hardware, leaving Android users in the cold. Until now.
Google has announced that iPhone and Android users can now share files using an AirDrop-like experience, although it’s only available for those using one of the Pixel 10 phones for now.

The Google press release says that it knows people have wanted an easier way to share files between iPhones and Android phones for some time. To help, it’s updated its own Quick Share feature to work with AirDrop. “This makes file transfer easier between iPhones and Android devices,” Google’s release says.
Those worried about the privacy and security of the new Quick Share feature need not be, Google claims. It says that it worked with independent security experts to make sure that people’s data is protected “with strong safeguards”.
As mentioned, this is only available to those using a Pixel 10 device right now, but Google does say that it will continue to improve the feature and expand it to more Android devices. Although there’s currently no timeline for when that will happen.
It also remains to be seen whether this could be broken by a future iOS update, or whether Apple has been involved in the work to make these file transfers work.
