Apple Watch’s new high blood pressure hypertension detection alerts feature is compatible with older models as well. Here’s what you need to know.
As you may already know by now, Apple today announced Apple Watch Series 11 and Apple Watch Ultra 3. Both of these watches come with a new health feature that can alert users of hypertension.

If you thought you would have to buy the new model just to gain access to this feature, well fear not as Apple has today confirmed that the following models will also get this feature as part of watchOS 26 update.
- Apple Watch Ultra 2
- Apple Watch Series 10
- Apple Watch Series 9
What does this feature do? According to Apple:
Get notified of chronic high blood pressure.
Hypertension, or high blood pressure, impacts over 1.3 billion adults worldwide and is a leading cause of a heart attack, stroke, and kidney disease. The condition frequently goes undiagnosed because it often has no symptoms — and even during a doctor’s visit, with a single measurement it can be easily missed.
Receive hypertension notifications just by wearing your watch. Series 11 can notify you if it identifies patterns of hypertension.1 How? The optical sensor provides data to an algorithm that can detect potential hypertension by analyzing how your blood vessels respond to beats of the heart over 30-day periods.
Apple will release final version of watchOS 26 to compatible Apple Watch models on September 15.
