Apple Reportedly Working On A New iMac Pro With An M5 Max Chip Inside

Apple is reportedly working on a new, high-performance of the iMac that will use the M5 Max chip. That’s according to a report based on information identified in leaked internal Apple software.

MacRumors reports that the leaked kernel debug kit files are used by Apple engineers, and the tools mention unreleased versions of Apple hardware as a result.

Those references use internal identifiers and codenames, but can often be used to figure out the company’s future plans. MacRumors also notes that “secondary summaries and screenshots referencing the same internal code have also circulated in the Chinese tech community over the past week, including posts on Weibo and BiliBili.”

The software contains references to an ‌iMac‌ with the identifier J833c running platform H17C. H17C is associated with the codename “Sotra C,” which relates to the expected marketing name “M5 Max.” This suggests that an ‌iMac‌ with the M5 Max chip is in active testing.

This would mean the reintroduction of an iMac Pro that will sit above the current iMac model in Apple’s lineup. The iMac Pro would also have a larger display, although details are of course hard to come by right now.

The same kernel debut kit leak has shared details about future MacBook Pro models with M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, as well as the next 14-inch MacBook Pro with an M6 chip inside.
