Apple has released iOS 18.7.7 and iPadOS 18.7.7 for those who are using devices that cannot install iOS 26, with the update all about fixing a security issue caused by the DarkSword exploit.
While Apple had previously limited the iOS 18.7.7 update to the iPhone XS and iPhone XR devices, the company has now also made it available for those still using other devices, too.

For those who own devices that support iOS 26 but have yet to install it, Apple recommends installing the latest version of that software rather than sticking with iOS 18.7.7.
If you’re still using an iPhone that is running an older version of iOS 18, the update will be offered as part of a Critical Security Update.
Note: We enabled the availability of iOS 18.7.7 for more devices on April 1, 2026, so users with Automatic Updates turned on can automatically receive important security protections from web attacks called DarkSword. The fixes associated with the DarkSword exploit first shipped in 2025.
Devices with older versions of iOS 18 will receive an additional alert to install a Critical Security Update.
The DarkSword security flaw has been used by multiple hacker groups in various countries and has even been made available for free via GitHub. That may be in Apple’s thinking here, pushing the company to make the fix available to as many people as possible.
