Apple Releases iOS 26.6 RC For iPhone, iPad

Apple has officially released the first Release Candidate (RC) of iOS 26.6 for developers, bringing the update one step closer to its public rollout.

Although Apple’s focus has shifted to iOS 27, iOS 26.6 will be the next software update available to all compatible iPhones. The beta has been in testing since late May, and the RC build usually signals that the final version is nearly ready for release.

So far, iOS 26.6 doesn’t introduce many new user-facing features. However, Apple has made changes to how many contacts users can block and appears to be working on a new anti-theft feature for iPhone. The update also includes release notes confirming preparations for the Spotlight index that will support Siri AI features coming with iOS 27.

Beyond these improvements, iOS 26.6 mainly focuses on stability, bug fixes, and behind-the-scenes enhancements rather than major new additions.

If no significant issues are found in the Release Candidate, Apple is expected to make iOS 26.6 available to all users in the coming days. Meanwhile, development of iOS 27 continues ahead of its expected public release this September.
