Apple Releases iOS 26.4 RC For iPhone To Testers Ahead Of Public Release

Apple has today released the first Release Candidate version of its iOS 26.4 iPhone software update to developers. The update will likely be released to the public within weeks, assuming that no further issues are identified.

The update brings with it a number of new features that iPhone owners will benefit from, making this one of the biggest updates since iOS 26 was released in September of 2025.

It is also likely one of the final notable updates before Apple announces iOS 27 at its developer event, likely in June.

Among the new features that iOS 26.4 will bring to the iPhone is a redesigned Apple Music album and playlist view. Apple Music will also gain a new “Playlist Playground” feature powered by Apple Intelligence. Users will be able to tell the Music app what they want their playlist to contain and the app will add music based on that request.

Other additions include an expected eight new emoji characters as well as support for more granular Personal Hotspot data usage reports. For the first time, iPhone owners will be able to see per-device usage data for devices that are connected via the Personal Hotspot feature.

The update also enabled Apple’s Stolen Device Detection feature by default as well as early support for CarPlay video — although carmakers will need to enable the feature.
