A prototype reveals Apple tested an M1 iMac with a front-facing logo, but chose to remove it in the final design. The logo remains on the back of current models.
Here’s a fun bit of Apple trivia: Apple did prototype a version of the colorful M1 iMac with a front-facing Apple logo below the screen, according to a new leak shared by Kosutami on X.
Ever since the 2021 redesign, the iMac has gone without a logo on the front — a first in years. It features an ultra-thin profile, bright colors, and Apple silicon, but fans quickly noticed the missing mark below the display. Turns out, Apple considered keeping it.
While Kosutami has shared both accurate and questionable info in the past, it wouldn’t be surprising if Apple explored multiple versions during the design phase.
Testing both logo and logo-free layouts makes sense, especially for such a major visual change.
In the end, Apple opted for a cleaner, minimalist front, and the only visible Apple logo sits on the back of the machine. For those who miss the classic look, now you know, it almost made the cut.
