Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max only went on sale a few days ago, but some new owners have reported their devices randomly restarting of their own accord.
Now, Apple has confirmed that it will release a new software update to address the issue next week.
According to 9to5Mac, Apple has confirmed the issue and that a bug fix will be released soon — likely as part of an iOS 27.0.1 update. A similar watchOS 27.0.1 update has already been released for a similar restarting issue.
According to 9to5Mac, the issue appears to be related to Face ID and often happens following a failed Face ID authentication.
At the time, we reproduced the problem on an iPhone 18 Pro device by obscuring our face with our hand as we attempted a Face ID authentication to access the Passwords app. The phone simply stops responding to touch input, and hard reboots after a few seconds. You could then find a panic log in the iPhone Analytics section of the Settings app.
The new iPhones feature a redesigned Face ID system with the infrared camera placed behind the display. That allows for a smaller Dynamic Island and for three Live Activities to be displayed at the same time, up from the previous two. It’s unclear whether the issue is related to that new camera or something else within the iPhone 18 Pro’s FaceID system.
