Apple CEO Tim Cook gifted US President Donald Trump a piece of glass during his recent visit to the White House. But this was no ordinary piece of glass.
The handover was to celebrate the news that Apple would invest $100 billion in US manufacturing, including the production of iPhone and Apple Watch glass.

And that’s where the gift comes in. The circular glass was a one-of-a-kind item and included a 24k base, also produced in the United States
“This glass comes from the Corning line. It’s engraved for President Trump. It’s a unique unit of one. It was designed by a U.S. Marine Corps corporal, a former one, that works at Apple now. And the base comes from Utah. And it’s 24-karat gold.”
Trump accepted the gift and commended Cook on bringing business back to the United States, saying that it was there “instead of other countries, far away countries”.
Apple and Cook have long cozied up to Trump in an attempt to avoid the effects of ongoing tariff chaos. Apple has so far found its products exempt from import tariffs that could have seen it increase the prices of its products to compensate.
Apple is expected to announce its new iPhones and Apple Watches at an event next month. It remains to be seen whether they will be more expensive than their predecessors.
