Apple has announced that it will be introducing what it calls “additional controls” for the Mac’s Full Disk Access security setting in an attempt to prevent unruly AI agents from gaining access to data.
This comes after it was suggested that Meta’s Muse agent was able to access data on a Mac even though its security setting didn’t appear to allow it.

Apple warns that it believes some developers are using Full Disk Access in ways that are putting Mac users at risk, giving apps access to data like files, email, and messages.
The post, shared via the company’s developer news site, adds that the risks associated with this kind of access have increased given the use of AI agents.
Going forward, we will introduce additional controls to ensure that users who genuinely wish to grant an app this extraordinary level of access can only do so with very explicit user action. Addressing this is critical. As AI agents become increasingly capable and autonomous, the risks associated with this level of access will grow substantially. We are committed to ensuring users clearly understand these risks before granting such access, so they can make informed decisions about their own data and privacy.
Apple hasn’t yet said when the new changes will come into force, and it’s likely that the companies responsible for AI agents will look to push back in some way.
