Apple today announced its upgraded, M5-powered iPad Pro in both 11-inch and 13-inch sizes. The new machine comes after weeks of rumors, and was announced alongside M5 versions of the Apple Vision Pro and 14-inch MacBook Pro.
Apple says that the addition of a new, faster M5 chip “unlocks the most advanced iPad experience ever, packing an incredible amount of power and AI performance into the ultraportable design of iPad Pro.” The new iPad Pro also supports WiFi 7 and uses Apple’s N1 wireless networking chip. The cellular version of the iPad Pro also gains an Apple-designed C1X modem with 5G support.

The new modem offers up to 50 percent faster cellular data performance, APple claims, all while being more efficient. That should allow the new iPad Pro to run for longer on battery, even when out in the field.
The biggest upgrade here is the M5 chip, however. It boasts a 10-core GPU with a NEural Accelerator in each core, ensuring faster GPU performance when processing AI workloads.

M5 delivers AI performance that’s up to 3.5x faster compared to M4, and up to 5.6x faster than iPad Pro with M1.2The new iPad Pro is designed for AI and accelerates a wide variety of workloads, such as on-device diffusion-based image generation in apps like Draw Things, and AI video masking in apps like DaVinci Resolve. And the faster 16-core Neural Engine delivers the most energy-efficient performance for on-device AI, perfect for apps that use the Foundation Models framework and for Apple Intelligence features like creating in Image Playground.
The new model also features faster unified memory bandwidth, an improvement of almost 30% compared to the previous one. Apple also says that the 256GB and 512GB models also start with 12GB of RAM, 50% more than the previous generation.

The M5 iPad Pro is available for preorder starting today and will officially go on sale on Wednesday, October 22. Prices start at $999 for the 11-inch model, while those buying the 13-inch one will pay at least $1,299.
