Apple Announces AirTag 2 With Improved Range And More

Apple has announced a new, updated version of the AirTag item tracker with the new model sporting improved range and a louder speaker for improved findability.

The new AirTag, still sold for $29 each or fir $99 in a pack of four, builds on the popularity of the previous iteration by improving features across the board.

Apple says that the new model uses the same second-generation Ultra Wideband chip found in the iPhone 17 lineup, iPhone Air, Apple Watch Ultra 3, and Apple Watch Series 11. That means that it can be found up to 50% further away, while Precision Finding is now available to owners of the Apple Watch Series 9 or later, and Apple Watch Ultra 2 or later.

Apple also confirmed that the new version of the AirTag tracker has a 50% louder speaker, allowing it to be heard up to 2x farther away than before.

With its updated internal design, the new AirTag is 50 percent louder than the previous generation, enabling users to hear their AirTag from up to 2x farther than before. Paired with its enhanced Precision Finding capabilities and distinctive new chime, AirTag now makes it easier for users to find their important items, such as keys hidden deep in between couch cushions or a wallet as they head out the door.

The new AirTag uses the same Find My network as the previous one and is available for order online today. The new model will also be available in Apple Stores starting later this week.
