Android 4.2.2 For Nexus 4 Spotted In The Wild [IMAGE]

The original screenshot showing Android 4.2.2 as the installed OS version was reportedly pulled directly off an 8GB version of the Nexus 4 that was intended for use in the Malaysian market. The rest of the information within the screenshot checks out when compared to a run of the mill Nexus 4, the only difference being a small discrepancy with the build number on the handset. The developer keys that are appended to the end of the build number indicates that the device could be running a version of Android that was only intended for use on development and test devices.

In normal circumstances one lone device running a previously unseen version of Android wouldn't really draw much attention to itself. However, a number of other consumers in the Brazilian territories have since come forward showing off the exact same version of Android running on their Nexus 4 handsets with the same mysterious build number.

It could be a case of a number of test and development devices having slipped through the net and found their way to the hands of consumers. Alternatively it could be an indication that we are about to see an imminent public release of Android 4.2.2. Time will tell.

The Google Nexus 4 – designed and manufactured by the good guys over at LG – is arguably one of the hottest Android devices on the market, but it looks like some owners of the sought-after hardware are receiving more than what they bargained for. A number of Malaysian and Brazilian Nexus 4 owners are reporting that their devices have arrived pre-installed with Android 4.2.2, a version of the operating system that hasn’t been made public yet.

The current public release of Android is sitting at 4.2.1, so it seems highly unlikely that some fortunate individuals would head on over to the device information menus and find a version of the world’s most popular mobile operating system that is yet to be pushed out to the masses, but it seems that is exactly what has happened. We’ve seen things like in this past where users have manipulated the screenshot or edited a property list on the device to make it appear to be running something it isn’t, but it still has the potential to be a genuine oversight on the manufacturer’s behalf.
