Rumors of a new, budget MacBook have again surfaced, this time with one analyst claiming that Apple will launch a machine that is cheaper than the $999 MacBook Air and be powered by a chip found in the iPhone.
The decision to use an A-series chip instead of an M-series one could cause a stir, but it could also be one way for Apple to offer a cheaper device that is still performant for a whole bunch of tasks.

In a post on the X social network, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says that Apple will use the A18 Pro chip rather than an M-series chip. The A18 Pro is currently used in the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, and is incredibly fast.
While the new MacBook is expected to be cheaper than existing ones, it isn’t yet clear just how low the price might go. However, Kuo believes that Apple could be ready to put the new MacBook into production as early as the end of this year or early in 2026.
It’s important to remember that the Apple M-series Mac chips are a variation on the A-series chips used in the iPhone, so this shouldn’t be seen as a terrible idea.
On the contrary, we can expect such a machine to offer exceptional performance and battery life while not requiring a fan or a large battery. The result could be the thinnest and lightest MacBook ever.
