Apple’s upcoming iOS 27 software update could use AI to create new custom shortcuts, according to a new report.
Apple Intelligence code found by Nicolás Alvarez and backed up by MacRumors appears to suggest that the iOS 27 update will change the way we create new shortcuts via Apple’s Shortcuts app.

The Shortcuts app allows users to create shortcuts that can be used to take various actions on their devices. Multiple steps can be added together in a single shortcut, and some people have created really complex shortcuts that do some incredibly impressive things.
But there’s a big learning curve for anyone who wants to take things beyond the most basic operations. By allowing AI to make those shortcuts, iPhone users could soon be able to build more complex shortcuts in the future.
There isn’t much more detail in the original report, likely because it’s difficult to discern Apple’s plans from back-end code. But if this is really the way Apple is headed, we can expect to learn more at WWDC in June when iOS 27 is expected to be announced.
Even if iOS 27 is first announced at WWDC in June, we won’t be able to install it until its official release this fall. Apple will put the update through a months-long beta process, so we will at least learn more from those willing to install the beta on their devices.
