Age of Empires II, the popular game that has been available for Windows PC for a while, is set to come to the Mac later this month.
Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition will be released on Thursday, May 28 for macOS, with the Steam version being the first.

A version that will be available for download via the Mac App Store will also be available, but not until later this year. It’s likely the Steam version will also be cheaper due to the commission that Apple charges for all games sold via the App Store.
Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition comes complete with razor-sharp 4K visuals, a fully remastered soundtrack, and includes three expansions with the base game: Lords of the West, Dynasties of India, and Dawn of the Dukes. Newcomers to the series and returning veterans alike can look forward to all the fast-paced base-building and warfare that made this game a classic, given new life over two decades of refinement and additional content.
Gaming on the Mac continues to lag behind the PC, although modern Mac chips are capable of playing modern games with impressive visuals.
Apple’s WWDC event is also just around the corner — it’ll begin on June 8 — so it’s possible the company will announce more tools to make it easier for game developers to bring their wares to the Mac.
