A New iOS 26.3 Feature Gives You More Control Over Your Location Privacy

Apple recently released iOS 26.3 to the public, and while it doens’t bring any big new features, it does add a privacy tweak that means people have more control over their location data.

The new feature, called ‘Limited Precise Location,” will limit the location information that is shared with your cellular provider.

Normally, they would be able to work out your location based on the towers that you’re connected to — but this feature changes that.

Cellular networks can determine your location based on which cell towers your device connects to. The limit precise location setting enhances your location privacy by reducing the precision of location data available to cellular networks.

With this setting turned on, some information made available to cellular networks is limited. As a result, they might be able to determine only a less precise location — for example, the neighborhood where your device is located, rather than a more precise location (such as a street address). The setting doesn’t impact signal quality or user experience.

The toggle can be found in the Cellular > Cellular Data Options area of the Settings app. However, you will need a device with an Apple C1 or C1X chip inside, which means the iPhone Air, iPhone 16e, and M5 iPad Pro are the only devices supported currently.

It’s also important to note that it only works with some carriers currently, too.
