Apple today announced new accessory features that are made possible by Apple Intelligence, including a way to control power wheelchairs using an Apple Vision Pro.
Announced via a post to the Apple Newsroom website, the new features come as Apple readies bigger software unveilings for the June 8 WWDC event. All of these new features are designed to make devices easier to use, with natural language navigation coming to features such as VoiceOver, Magnifier, Voice Control, and Accessibility Reader.

VoiceOver and Magnifier can now describe onscreen information or even their surroundings for the first time. “The Image Explorer in VoiceOver uses Apple Intelligence to give more detailed descriptions of images systemwide, including what’s in photographs, scanned bills, personal records, and other visual content,” the announcement confirmed. VoiceOver users will also benefit from updates to Live Recognition by pressing the Action button on an iPhone to ask a question.
Magnifier gains new Apple Intelligence abilities and also works with the Action button for the first time. Users can also control the app using their voice by saying things like “zoom in” or “turn on flashlight.”
Natural language support for Voice Control makes the feature more intuitive to use across iPhone and iPad.
The option to “say what you see” is great for navigating any app, including those with visual layouts such as Apple Maps or Files, using intuitive language like “tap the guide about best restaurants” or “tap the purple folder.” This can also help users overcome barriers when elements aren’t properly labeled for accessibility.

Accessory Reader offers a customized reading experience for people with a range of disabilities, including dyslexia and low vision. Apple Intelligence support means Accessibility Reader can work with scientific material and articles.
Other additions include support for generating subtitles for spoken language on uncaptioned videos when using an iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV, and Apple Vision Pro. Finally, Apple announced support for using an Apple Vision Pro to control motorized wheelchairs using nothing more than a wearer’s eyes.
