4.7-inch iPhone 6 And 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus Releasing September 19th [Report]

For the past couple of weeks it has been well documented that both the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 and the 5.5-inch ‘iPhone 6 Plus’ will be announced at the same event on September 9th. But while it has long since been expected that the smaller device would hit the retail market later on in September, the larger iPhone, we were told, was subject to delay and wouldn’t arrive until October. Now, though, a new report has waded in on the eve of the big keynote to suggest that both next-gen iPhones will be released at the same time, with early adopters able to get their hands on either from September 19th.

iGen.fr, a fairly reliable blog when it comes to Apple-related chatter, cites inside sources in suggesting the September 19th launch. Given that Apple traditionally releases new iOS products ten days after announcement and on a Friday, it’s not the kind of rumor that couldn’t have just been made up on the spot, but given iGen’s record for making these calls, there’s a fairly good chance that this latest report is right on the money.

The date, in itself, isn’t as significant as iGen’s further claim that the 5.5-inch iPhone will be available from day one, also hitting the retail market on September 19th, and if true, means that those in pursuit of the larger device will not have to wait it out as first thought.

Given the reported production delays, though, Apple will probably struggle to ship enough 5.5-inch devices to meet the early demand, and iGen.fr does go on to suggest that it may be in short supply on launch day. The 4.7-inch variant, meanwhile, should be more readily available, although given how quickly the initial batch of iPhone 5s devices sold out last year, it’s likely that the inventory of the smaller model will also be spent within a couple of hours.

With sources such as KGI’s Ming-Chi Kuo having suggested that the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 won’t launch until October, it’s hard to get too excited at this point in time. Still, once Tim Cook and co. take to the stage tomorrow, we’ll know for certain what’s in store and when, and if you want to keep abreast of this mammoth launch, stay tuned!
