Windows 10 Reaches Its 10th Birthday Today

Microsoft’s Windows 10 operating system has just had its 10th birthday. The software was released to the public on July 29, 2015.

The 10th birthday comes as Microsoft is getting ready to remove support for Windows 10 as it works to push more people to upgrade to Windows 11 instead.

Microsoft has a webpage dedicated to Windows 10’s story.

The software was unveiled as being ready to power a “broad range of devices,” including those with big screens and “no screens at all.”

Today I had the honor of sharing new information about Windows 10, the new generation of Windows. Our team shared more Windows 10 experiences and how Windows 10 will inspire new scenarios across the broadest range of devices, from big screens to small screens to no screens at all.

Since then we’ve seen Windows 10 updated regularly with new features and tweaks coming and going. Now, Windows 10n will see support ended on October 14, 2025, but there are ways for users to extend support if they really want to. However, upgrading to Windows 11 is clearly the best option in terms of support.

It remains to be seen how long Windows 11 hangs around and what Microsoft has up its sleeve as its ultimate replacement. But if we can expect each big Windows release to last for 10 years, we won’t have to worry about that for a while yet.
