WhatsApp just got a little more fun for iPhone and Android users. The app now supports Apple’s Live Photos and Android’s equivalent, Motion Photos.
That means you can finally share those moving, sound-filled snapshots directly in your chats instead of just sending them as plain still images.

If you’re on iPhone, you’ll see the familiar Live Photo icon in the corner of an image. Tap it, and it’ll play back with that little bit of motion and audio, basically making photos feel alive again. On Android, Motion Photos work in the same way.
This isn’t the only update WhatsApp has been rolling out quietly. Meta AI can now help you design custom chat themes or even create fun video call backgrounds.
You can also drop in AI-powered backdrops for photos and videos in your conversations, which makes chats feel way more personal. And if you’re drowning in group chats, good news: WhatsApp now lets you just search a contact’s name in your Chats tab, and it’ll show all the groups you share with them.

If you don’t see Live Photos or Motion Photos working yet, don’t panic—just update to the latest version of WhatsApp and it should show up.
