While replying to a tweet, MuscleNerd of iPhone Dev Team has confirmed that an unlock for iPhone 3G/3GS on 05.12.01 baseband will be released once Apple announces the new iPhone along with final GM version of iPhone OS 4. This announcement is expected to be made at WWDC 2010 so it wont be long before we finally get our iPhones unlocked on this baseband.

Unlock for iPhone 3.1.3 on 05.12.01 baseband is here, but not in the ideal way you would have liked. Some folks over at a Turkish shop have managed to successfully unlock an iPhone 3G, on OS 3.1.3, running 05.12.01 baseband via a hardware flash. They have also shot a 10 minutes video which shows the whole process of re-flashing the baseband back to 04.26.08. Video after the jump.
Steve – the guy who was behind PushFix 2.0 (the first real fix for Push Notifications) for unlocked iPhones has just released Blacksn0w RC2. This version of blacksn0w is basically a repackaged version of the original unlock released by geohot, and the fix which was recently released by MSFT Guy for 05.11.07 baseband on iPhone OS 3.1.3.
A fix has been released to unlock the latest iPhone 3.1.3 firmware on 05.11.07 baseband using Blacksn0w. Most of you who have tried to unlock iPhone 3.1.3 with 05.11.07 baseband using blacksn0w might have faced this problem where the said tool is unable to unlock iPhone 3G and 3GS. This is because blacksn0w is locating a function to patch by searching the binary for a reference to string "SIM is not supported". In iPhone OS 3.1.3, Apple has replaced the same function in a way that it now uses the string "Verified". Since the location to patch is determined by instruction search&replace, the said patch still works in iPhone 3.1.3 after changing the string and its length in Blacksn0w binary.
The guy behind Cydia, Jay Freeman (aka Saurik) has released an APT update which has significantly improved the rather slow, and painful loading times in Cydia. Cache Generator has also been optimized so that Cydia doesn't take an hour reloading. This new update is said to drop the loading times from 22 seconds to just 2.2 seconds (tested on iPhone 3GS), 10x improvement.
If you have activated your iPhone through an unauthorized carrier (aka hacktivation) on iPhone 3.x, then your Push Notifications functionality in most cases will be broken. Even if you have tried getting it to work through “PushFix” via iPhoneil available in Cydia, it wont work as that fix uses a single shared certificate for all users who have installed it. This causes battery drainage and huge use of cellular data access.
Gull1hack and Blacksn0w V2 by the Gull1hack team has now been confirmed as fake by the iPhone Dev-Team. A Release Candidate version of Gull1hack was released the other day which was supposed to jailbreak all iPhone and iPod touch devices on the new bootrom untethered.
Folks behind the Gull1hack tool are also said to be working on a new unlocking tool dubbed Blacksn0w V2 which according to them will ultimately unlock the new iPhone 3.1.3 05.12.01 baseband on iPhone 3GS with new bootrom. I for one wont believe them until they come out with more proof of concept screenshot and videos.
