A special edition of PwnageTool (version 4.1.3) has been released which can update the baseband of iPhone 3GS & 3G to 06.15.00 so that they can be unlocked using Ultrasn0w 1.2 on the latest iOS 4.2.1 or iOS 4.1 firmware. This is important because basebands 05.14.xx and 05.15.xx are currently not unlockable using Ultrasn0w.

In a reply to one of his many followers on Twitter, MuscleNerd of iPhone Dev Team has confirmed that ultrasn0w unlock for iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G on iOS 4.1 and iOS 4.2, with 05.14.02 baseband will be released in a day or two at most, once iOS 4.2 is released to public.

Earlier today, we were tipped off about Limesn0w unlock which was said to have been worked on by Geohot for the new 05.14.02 and 2.10.04 basebands on iOS 4.1 for iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS. We didn’t post it because the videos and pictures floating around the Internet were too obviously fake.

But if you upgrade (while preserving baseband) and then jailbreak iPhone 3GS on iOS 4.1 using PwnageTool method posted here, you can unlock your phone (iPhone 3GS) using the existing version of ultrasn0w. Apple has just released the very final version for iOS 4.1 for iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G and iPod touches. This version of iOS brings a number of new features for iPhone and iPod touch users including: Game Center, HDR Photography for iPhone 4, iTunes Ping, HD video upload on YouTube and MobileMe for iPhone 4 and iPod touch 4G and so on. If you want to keep your jailbreak and unlock, you better not update to this latest firmware now until and unless new jailbreak and unlock tools are available for download.

Next week, Apple will roll-out the new iOS 4.1 firmware for iPhone 4, 3GS, 3G, iPad and iPod touch. This new firmware like iOS 4.0.2 will require another exploit for jailbreak as the loophole which was found in iOS 4.0.1 was quickly fixed by Apple in iOS 4.0.2. Comex will be on it once Apple releases the firmware to public early next week.

The official UK website of Apple has this confirmation up on the site that iOS 4.1 for iPhone and iPod touches will drop on Wednesday, September 8th. This is probably the same day when the new iPod lineup for fall 2010 (iPod nano, iPod shuffle and iPod touch 4G) will also go retail.
