Remember msft.guy? who fixed the blacksn0w unlock for iPhone 3.1.3 05.11.07 baseband? and who recently released binary which enabled blacksn0w unlock port for iPhone 3GS, on iOS 4 Beta 4 (formerly iPhone OS 4). Well the guy is back now! He has posted PwnageTool bundles for iPhone 3GS, iOS 4 GM release which you can use to jailbreak your iPhone 3GS, while preserving your baseband so that you can unlock using ultrasn0w or blacksn0w.
The million dollar question, how long before the new iPhone 4 is going to be jailbroken and unlocked? Well we already know that the iPhone Dev Team has already announced that they are going to release an unlock which will work on the 05.12.01 baseband on all iPhones, provided they haven't upgraded to the latest 05.13 baseband. But since the new iPhone 4 will have the latest baseband, it will be a while before it gets fully jailbroken and unlocked. Another infamous iPhone hacker by the name of Geohot is also said to have a new bootrom exploit, which he has preserved for this new iPhone.
Apparently, an ex-Apple employee has managed to successfully jailbreak iPhone 3GS on iPhone OS 4 Beta. The redsn0w 0.9.5 jailbreak tool for iPhone OS 4 currently works on iPhone 3G only. The support for other iDevices will naturally follow once Apple releases iPhone OS 4 at WWDC. But KaatjeNL’s jailbreak method works on iPhone 3GS too. And the best thing about it is that it doesn't upgrade your baseband, which means you can enjoy iPhone OS 4, fully jailbroken on the older baseband with an unlock using ultrasn0w.
Redsn0w has just been updated to beta 4 to support the latest iPhone OS 4 Beta 4 firmware. iPhone OS 4 Beta 4 was released by Apple last week, which since Beta 2 has closed the jailbreak loophole used by Redsn0w 0.9.5b1 and b2 to jailbreak OS 4. But with this latest version of redsn0w, you should be able to jailbreak iPhone OS 4 again on iPhone 3G.
I have just been tipped off on twitter about Limera1n.com – a domain which has been registered by the infamous iPhone hacker named George Hotz (aka geohot). The domain whois record for both blackra1n and limera1n shares same record and confirms that it has been registered by geohot on March 27. Whois record also reveals that it was last updated on April 13, almost effectively the same date when geohot successfully jailbroke iPhone OS 4 which makes it even more authentic. Though there is no confirmation about this by geohot himself.
Most of you must have heard about the thunderst0rm team who claims to have got an exploit+solution to jailbreak and unlock all device (iPhone, iPod and iPad) on iPhone 3.1.3 with 05.12.01 baseband. Today, they have posted a new video which shows the final test build in action. According to them, if everything goes fine, they will release the program Tomorrow.
Now that we have a jailbreak (developers only) for iPhone OS 4 Beta, and an upgraded version of Fuzzyband (Baseband downgrader). Technically, iPhone 3G can now be unlocked on the latest iPhone OS 4 Beta, provided that you have one of those rare iPhone 3G’s with 05.08 bootloader that is downgradable to 05.13.03 baseband of OS 4 to 04.26.08 so that ultrasn0w can unlock it.
Similar to the hack which enabled multitasking on iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2G running iPhone OS 4 Beta, the following step by step instructions will help you enable Wallpapers support which like multitasking, was locked down by Apple for the mentioned devices. You will need to be jailbroken on iPhone OS 4.0 before you follow the steps below.
The iPhone hacker (ih8sn0w) behind sn0wbreeze, f0recast and BlackBreeze today has posted a tweet via his twitter account in which he has confirmed to have grabbed the decryption keys for iPhone 3GS on iPhone OS 4.0 Beta. These keys can be used to decrypt the firmware so that you can explore it for exploits for a possible jailbreak.
The wonder kid George Hotz (aka Geohot) has now managed to jailbreak the newly release iPhone OS 4 Beta as well. He is the second one, behind the iPhone Dev-Team to achieve this feat. The following picture was posted by him on his twitter account which showed blackra1n running on iPhone OS 4.
