A new untethered jailbreak tool, by the name of UnthreadedJB, has just been released which apparently can jailbreak CDMA iPhone 4 running on iOS 5.1.
In a day which has been dominated by the announcement of the Samsung Galaxy S III, a little jailbreak update has just come in via Twitter. Pod2g, one of the most influential members of the Cydia community, has revealed that he today managed to jailbreak his iPhone 4 untethered on iOS 5.1.
iH8sn0w, the well known iOS developer and researcher who is responsible for the production of Sn0wbreeze, iFaith, iReb and f0recast has been hard at work again trying to resolve an issue that has been tainting the experience of owners of the iPhone 4S and iPad 2. The said two Apple devices are powered by the A5 processor, and as any jailbreak fan will know, it hasn't previously been possible to perform firmware downgrades on those two units. When Apple releases a new version of iOS, they promptly stop signing the older firmware, meaning that any official restores result in the user installing the latest official iOS version onto their device.
Those of us partial to a jailbreak - moreover, an untethered jailbreak - have been well and truly spoiled for choice today. Although i0n1c demonstrated his method only a few hours ago, it can now be confirmed that there are three - yes, three - total methods of jailbreaking iOS 5.1 on 3rd-gen iPad, with the third jailbreak method coming from Grant Paul and Paul Griffin.
The loyal and devoted jailbreak community has become used to being involved in numerous roller coaster rides when it comes to new devices and software being released and the pursuit of a jailbreak, after all, isn't the chase all part of the fun and the thrill of the ride? I came pretty quickly to the realization in my life that everything worth doing or achieving is worth waiting and working for. A victory which is handed to you without any fight or passion expended cannot be classed as a victory at all, in my opinion.
The army of Cydia devotees had to wait quite a while for iOS 5 to be jailbroken. Thanks to a collaborative effort from some of the most talented developers in the game, the A4 jailbreak in December was closely followed a couple of weeks later by the Absinthe, A5 jailbreak for the iPad 2 and iPhone 4S.
If for some reason you prefer using ih8sn0w’s Sn0wbreeze over iPhone Dev-Team’s Redsn0w, the good news for you is that it has just been updated to version 2.9.2, bringing tethered-jailbreak support for the latest version of iOS.
The iPhone Dev-Team - reliably as per usual - have updated its Redsn0w jailbreak tool, allowing those using the latest iOS 5.1 to set their devices free. It works for all iPhone, iPad and iPod touch devices except, of course, the iPhone 4S and the iPad 2.
