It seems like only yesterday that the jailbreak dream team dropped the good news by announcing the release of an untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.0.1 that would bring liberation and freedom to those who were using an iPhone 4S or iPad 2 powered by Apple’s A5 chip. It was in fact over eight weeks ago and although it was a huge accomplishment by all involved to release the Absinthe jailbreak, the community is once again focusing all eyes on the development teams hoping for a jailbreak which covers iOS 5.1.

iH8sn0w, the well known iOS developer and researcher who is responsible for the production of Sn0wbreeze, iFaith, iReb and f0recast has been hard at work again trying to resolve an issue that has been tainting the experience of owners of the iPhone 4S and iPad 2. The said two Apple devices are powered by the A5 processor, and as any jailbreak fan will know, it hasn’t previously been possible to perform firmware downgrades on those two units. When Apple releases a new version of iOS, they promptly stop signing the older firmware, meaning that any official restores result in the user installing the latest official iOS version onto their device.

Although i0n1c demonstrated his method only a few hours ago, it can now be confirmed that there are three – yes, three – total methods of jailbreaking iOS 5.1 on 3rd-gen iPad, with the third jailbreak method coming from Grant Paul and Paul Griffin.

The loyal and devoted jailbreak community has become used to being involved in numerous roller coaster rides when it comes to new devices and software being released and the pursuit of a jailbreak, after all, isn’t the chase all part of the fun and the thrill of the ride? I came pretty quickly to the realization in my life that everything worth doing or achieving is worth waiting and working for. A victory which is handed to you without any fight or passion expended cannot be classed as a victory at all, in my opinion.

After enjoying the build up to the recent Apple event in San Francisco, we are now sitting in the aftermath of the company announcements which brought us the new iPad, a revamped Apple TV unit, various application upgrades and an immediate release of the iOS 5.1 software. For the most part, the Apple loving world will have walked away from the live streams of the event being extremely happy with what was announced. However, for those of you who rely on jailbreaking and unlocking your devices, the release of iOS 5.1 may not have been such good news.

It has however, been twelve months since the introduction of the second-generation tablet, meaning Apple have once again taken to the stage in familiar surroundings and introduced the tablet loving world to the marvelous new iPad. Tim Cook and his team took to the stage in the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts and as usual, walked us through the device which I am in no doubt will change everything, again.
