The Jailbreak Detection API which was introduced by Apple in June this year with iOS 4.0 has been quietly disabled or removed from iOS 4.2.x, reports NetworkWorld. This API was used by third-party MDM apps such Afaria or AirWatch to detect whether the user’s device was jailbroken or not.
I was trying to install all those tweaks and mods which I previously had on iPhone 3GS on to my iPhone 4 only to find out that some of the more important and popular apps were still not compatible with the Apple’s latest handset. Apple today has released iOS 4.0.1 in a bid to fix the reception issue which has been plaguing iPhone 4 users since its launch last month. This new update addresses the reception issue which is experienced when the phone is tightly griped in the left hand.

The most vocal of all iPhone Dev Team members - MuscleNerd today updated on the whole iPhone 4 unlock situation which he has been working on with @planetbeing (of Android port for iPhone fame). For those of you who don’t know, carrier unlock for US iPhone 4s on AT&T requires complete rewrite of ultrasn0w software because of the new baseband OS in iPhone 4.
Sn0wbreeze 1.7 for 4.0 (for Windows) has been released. This release supports iPhone 3GS (old and new bootrom), iPhone 3GS, iPod touch 2G (MC and non-MC models), and iPod touch 3G. Though iPhone 3GS (new bootrom), iPod touch 2G (MC models) and iPod touch 3G will have to be either on 3.1.2 firmware, or will need to have their SHSH blobs saved for iOS 3.1.2 in order to successfully jailbreak these devices on iOS 4. Also the jailbreak for iPhone 3GS (new bootrom), iPod touch 2G (MC models) and iPod touch 3G on iOS 4 will be tethered, which means whenever you turn off your phone, you will need to re-connect it to a computer to be able to turn it back on.
According to a latest tweet by a member of iPhone Dev Team, it looks like an all device jailbreak like Spirit and Blackra1n is ready, incl. for devices like iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS (new bootrom), iPod touch 2G (MC models) and iPod touch 3G. This is going to be yet another userland jailbreak which we talked about earlier and is coming from none other than comex – the developer behind Spirit jailbreak tool for iPhone 3GS / 3G, iPad and iPod touch.
Ok guys.. Mac version of the guide is now up! (Windows version can be found here) The requirements though as mentioned earlier remains the same. You will need a iPhone 3GS (with new bootrom) on iOS 4, which has SHSH blobs saved for iPhone 3.1.2. Some other important notes about the jailbreak are as follows.

But as I mentioned earlier, there is a little catch to it. 1) it is a tethered jailbreak (whenever you turn off your phone, you will need to re-connect it to a computer to be able to turn it back on) and 2) it will only work for those devices which have their SHSH blobs (ECID SHSH) files for 3.1.2 (NOT 3.1.3) saved on Cydia.
