Report: Siri To Integrate With iOS 11 Messages App, Learn User Behavior, More

There’s already been plenty of talk about what Apple may introduce with iOS 11 during the opening keynote of this year’s Worldwide Developers Conference. Developers are expected to walk away with the initial pre-release of iOS 11 after that opening welcome, and instantly interact with a new, smarter and significantly enhanced Siri.

This news comes in from an Israel-based blog The Verifier. According to the publication, Apple will use iOS 11 as a stepping-stone to introduce a much smarter Siri experience basked into iMessage and iCloud.

Apple doesn’t appear to be making any secret about its internal efforts to try and make Siri a lot smarter and more capable across its range of devices. Technologies and experiences which rely on augmented and virtual reality are tipped to be the next big thing in consumer tech, but companies like Apple, Google, and Amazon are all said to be investing heavily and thinking seriously about artificial intelligence, and in particular, how to make their virtual assistants more capable and reliable with the progression of internal AI.

A published Apple patent application has already outlined how Siri could be brought into the iMessage experience, but if this report is to be believed, then it could make an appearance as early as this coming June with the first iOS 11 reveal.

As with most patents, it’s unlikely that the technology in its entirety will make it into a public facing product or experience, but there is definitely a belief that at least some of those proposed use cases could feature in iOS 11. Part of that upgrade will allegedly involve Siri being more contextually aware, as well as using its improved artificial intelligence to learn from the user’s behavior with the aim of improving the experience offered, tailored to each user.

More impressively, if accurate, it would seem that the learning capabilities would be tied to a specific user or account, and would therefore be accessible across all devices via iCloud syncing, including iOS, watchOS, tvOS, and of course, Macs running macOS 10.12 and beyond.

End-users in ownership of an iPhone or iPad may not always be aware, but Apple is continually tweaking and upgrading Siri behind-the-scenes in order to offer a better and more powerful experience. However, what would be extremely interesting, is a Siri experience which is aware of its “owner” – for lack of a better word – and changes its abilities and habits based on that individual user.

With WWDC 2017 expected to begin on June 5, and tickets already on sale, it won’t be long until we find out more.
