Apple is expected to finally launch its first foldable phone this year, and a new report suggests that it will also be among the first to boast a new A20 Pro chip.
The report, from MacRumors and based on an investor note from analyst Jeff Pu, suggests that the new A20 Pro chip will use Apple’s new 2nm manufacturing process. That will allow it to offer performance up to 15% faster than the A19 series of chips.

Despite that additional power, it’s thought that the A20 Pro will also be around 30% more power efficient, something that will be important if the iPhone Fold has a smaller battery due to its folding status.
MacRumors also notes that there will be other improvements to the A20 Pro’s architecture.
Moreover, the A20 Pro chips will be packaged with TSMC’s Wafer-Level Multi-Chip Module (WMCM) technology. With WMCM, the chips will have RAM integrated directly onto the same wafter as the CPU, GPU, and Neural Engine, rather than the RAM being adjacent to the chip and connected via silicon interposer.

Improvements to Apple Intelligence performance and improved battery life will be popular among Apple’s engineers and customers alike.
Pu also notes that the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max will also share 12GB of RAM, and will debut this coming September. The iPhone 18 will then launch in early 2027.
