Meta And Oakley Team Up For New Athlete-Focused Smart Glasses

Meta and Oakley have announced a new partnership that will see the pair release a new pair of smart glasses that are designed to be used by athletes and fans of sports.

The new partnership was announced via Instagram and YouTube ahead of an official announcement later this week.

The Oakley Meta glasses will join the Ray-Ban Meta glasses which have now been on sale for some time. A new pair of smart glasses from Prada is also on the way, CNBC reports.

The Oakley version of the glasses may cost around $360 as they are more weather resistant than their Ray-Ban counterparts, according to a person familiar with the matter who was not authorized to speak publicly about the upcoming device. The first version of the Oakley Meta glasses will feature similar technology to the Ray-Ban Meta glasses released in 2023.

Both Oakley and Prada are owned by Luxottica, the France and Italy-based eyewear company that also owns Ray-Ban. Prada frames, in particular, are known for their rather thick sides, something that would give Meta space to add its smart technology while still maintaining the familiar Prada look.

CNBC notes that it’s unclear yet as to when the Prada smart glasses will be announced, but it’s possible that we could see them teased during the Oakley announcement this week.
