Apple and Google have announced that the latter’s Gemini models will be used to help bring future Apple Intelligence features to iPhones and other devices. The models will also be used to make Siri more capable later this year.
Google announced the news in a statement released via the X social network, saying that the two companies “have entered into a multi-year collaboration under which the next generation of Apple Foundation Models will be based on Google’s Gemini models and cloud technology.”

It went on to say that both Apple Intelligence and a more personalized version of Siri will benefit from Gemini’s models.
On the topic of privacy, it’s important to note that Apple Intelligence will continue to run on Apple devices, while the same can also be said of the company’s Private Cloud Compute services. That ensures that Apple can continue to claim that its AI features offer “industry-leading privacy standards.”
Google’s statement notes that “Apple determined that Google’s Al technology provides the most capable foundation for Apple Foundation Models and is excited about the innovative new experiences it will unlock for Apple users.”

Apple is expected to release its new version of Siri this spring, with iOS 26.4. But the feature has already been delayed, and it’s unclear whether this news means that we should expect a further delay. The more capable Siri was announced at WWDC in June 2025.
