Is Apple Planning To Bring 3D To The iPad 3?

The iPad 2 is still on short supply, but the iPad 3 rumors have started already with RCRWireless writing that Apple is planning to bring 3D to its next tablet, citing a Hollywood source.

“The fact that the iPad 3 is 3D is a dead cert,” one Hollywood insider close to the big movie studios told RCR, adding that the screen would be the real magic. She went on to say that the big film studios were currently running around like blue arsed flies trying to gear up to release plenty of 3D content in time for Apple’s next launch.

As if already wary that we’ll not take their Hollywood source’s word, RCRWireless also claims Apple’s main manufacturing partner Foxconn has also leaked them information confirming 3D capabilities for iPad 3.

We’re not entirely convinced that Apple would want to use 3D in its iPad, whether that be with or without glasses. Current Android smartphones and tablets that do sport the technology aren’t wowing crowds, though Apple has been working on head-tracking technology for creating a 3D affect and similar technology has even been demonstrated by a 3rd party. Perhaps RCRWireless’ sources are confused?

Whether 3D manages to take the world by storm remains to be seen, but it currently appears to be something certain manufacturers feel is just something that needs to fill a bullet-point on the box whether it’s useful or not.
