iPhone 17 Might Get MagSafe 50W Wireless Charging With Qi 2.2

According to new regulatory info from Taiwan, the iPhone 17 could support the upcoming Qi 2.2 wireless charging standard.

This could mean charging speeds of up to 50W for the iPhone 17 Air. That’s a big jump from the current 15W with Qi 2, or even the 25W seen with MagSafe on newer iPhones.

Spotted by 91mobiles, the leak comes from certification documents that mention two new MagSafe chargers (model numbers A3503 and A3502). These have the classic white puck design, with braided cables in 1-meter and 2-meter lengths. More importantly, they support Qi 2.2.

Qi 2.2 isn’t just about speed. It also improves magnetic alignment and charging efficiency, meaning your phone should snap on better and charge more effectively. Plus, it’s backward compatible, so older phones can still use it—though they won’t get the full 50W benefit.

Testing shows these chargers work with iPhones as old as the iPhone 11, but only newer models (with the right internal chips) will be able to take full advantage of the faster speeds. This is similar to how Samsung uses a special chip in its devices for faster wireless charging.

Apple hasn’t officially said anything yet, but these filings are a strong hint that Qi 2.2 support is on the way, possibly launching alongside the iPhone 17, which is expected in September. Other brands are also likely to release Qi 2.2 gear later this year.

If you’re someone who’s always looking for faster and more convenient ways to charge, this could be great news.
