iOS 11.3.1 Electra Jailbreak Progress Update

Developer CoolStar has provided some timely updates on the progress of the iOS 11.3.1 jailbreak which will come in the form of an updated version of the Electra jailbreak toolkit.

When CoolStar first announced that he had all of the necessary components to create an iOS 11.3.1 jailbreak, he also confirmed that the original release of Electra had been somewhat of a public relations nightmare and that he wouldn’t let that happen again.

This time around, it seems like he is trying his hardest to keep that promise by being more active and informative via Twitter but by ignoring the trolls and trouble-makers at the same time. Now, his latest updates have confirmed a number of things.

He has confirmed that 16GB devices will still be compatible with the jailbreak but that they may lose a fair chunk of their internal memory:

16 GB devices will still be able to jailbreak… just expect more storage to be used up…

He has then announced that additional progress has been made in that respect and that it is possible that the disk size could be improved:

Update: we might be able to lower disk size of 11.3 jailbreak. More research incoming

All mods outside of things installed from Cydia/dpkg/apt will be deleted on reboot.

Most forms of jailbreak detection will no longer work in unjailbroken state (e.g. Fortnite, bank apps, etc.)

As you may already know, iOS 11.3 beta 5 is still being signed by Apple even when the iOS 11.3.1 window has been closed, and now CoolStar has also confirmed that this upcoming Electra jailbreak will support those devices which are downgraded to iOS 11.3 beta 5.

All of this is definitely great news for the jailbreak community and shows that decent progress is being made as far as the iOS 11.3.1 jailbreak is concerned. Within these updates, CoolStar hasn’t provided any additional information on an expected release date for the new version of Electra but we are sure he is working hard on it and will release when it’s ready for public consumption.
