Google Meet Comes To Apple CarPlay, Still No Android Auto Support

Users of Google Meet can now join meetings from their car thanks to the newly added support for Apple CarPlay.

But while iPhone owners can get in on the act, there’s still no sign of Android Auto support being added to the mix.

Google announced the news via a post to its Workspace Updates blog, saying that the update allows “on-the-go professionals to stay connected hands-free and join meetings safely while on the road.” The update is rolling out now to Workspace and personal users who have iPhones and absolutely must join meetings while on the move.

With this update, users can now access Google Meet directly from their car’s dashboard. This feature is designed to provide a seamless transition from your mobile iOS device to your vehicle, ensuring you never miss an important discussion. Whether you are commuting or traveling between appointments, you can now join meetings with a single tap, view your upcoming schedule, and participate in audio-only calls to maintain focus on driving.

Google also adds that while Meet users can join meetings from their car, the camera will be turned off automatically.

CarPlay also won’t display the video from the meeting, either. That means that users will only be able to hear the audio, while only their audio will be sent to other meeting-goers.
