A decade after the launch of Dolby Vision, Dolby Laboratories has announced its successor: Dolby Vision 2. The new picture quality “innovation” will come to Hisense TVs first via a range of new premium TVs, including those using RGB-MiniLED technology.
Announced via a press release, Dolby says that the new standard builds on the success of Dolby Vision and will be powered by a redesigned image engine.

The new engine “is fueled by a robust content pipeline spanning today’s most popular movies and TV shows, weekly live sports broadcasts, and an expanding library of games, all in Dolby Vision.”
Dolby announced Content Intelligence, new tools that give creators improved ways to make content and have it displayed correctly on the TVs that viewers use at home. AI capabilities are leveraged in a number of ways, including ensuring that images don’t appear “too dark.”
One aspect of Content Intelligence is called Light Sense, a feature that uses ambient light detection to adjust on-display clarity, while Sports and Gaming Optimization offers white point adjustments and motion control to help improve the quality of fast-paced action.
Dolby also announced that it is “going beyond HDR,” including Authentic Motion, a new tool that makes content appear more cinematic.
Dolby Vision 2 will come in two flavors: Dolby Vision 2, and Dolby Vision 2 Max.
- Dolby Vision 2 Max delivers the best picture on the highest performing TVs, adding additional premium features designed to utilize the full capabilities of these displays.
- Dolby Vision 2 brings dramatically improved picture quality to mainstream TVs, delivering the core next-generation capabilities made possible through the new Dolby Image Engine and Content Intelligence.
While the Hisense TVs will be the first to support Dolby Vision 2, we can expect more manufacturers to jump on board with new models soon enough.
