Bing And Yahoo Vying For iOS Mobile Safari’s Default Search Provider Spot

Google and Apple's partnership has been a shaky one at best, especially when it comes to iOS devices. Earlier on, Apple dropped Google Maps integration from iOS as the default maps and navigation app for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch in favor of its own Maps app, and YouTube was pulled from the list of stock apps as well, forcing Google to make both of these apps user-downloadable ones from the App Store. Now, it seems, that the default search provider for iOS Safari browser is up for grabs as well, as Google's contract is close to termination, and sources say that Bing and Yahoo! are both vying for the top spot.

Microsoft's latest iOS app aims to make traversing the English capital of London as easy as possible, and Bing Get Me There may prove invaluable for anyone heading to the imminent Olympic games. With the Olympics currently kicking off all across London, there are bound to be plenty of people roaming the streets of the English capital, and as is the case so often these days the chances are they will be turning to their smartphones for directions. If they happen to have an iPhone in their pockets and don't mind using something branded with Microsoft's Bing, then this new app could well be right up their well navigated street.

According to the sources at TechCrunch, the next version of iPhone OS, which is set to release this June will have Bing as its default search engine in Mobile Safari. Microsoft and Apple have reportedly been in talks over a possible search deal since January of this year, but since then there has been no real news on this.
