Apple has accused a former engineer of stealing the design and development information for the Apple Vision Pro mixed reality headset.
It’s alleged that the engineer took information about the headset to Snap, a competing company.

Apple filed a complaint against Di Liu on June 24, 2025, in Santa Clara County Superior Court and claims that the engineer stole secrets towards the end of their employment at the company.
A news report by SiliconValley quotes Apple as claiming that a “massive volume” of trade secrets was stolen.
Over his seven years at Cupertino-headquartered Apple, Liu rose to become a senior product-design engineer, and worked on the research and development of the company’s “Vision Pro” augmented-reality headset, a wearable computing device. The lawsuit, and Liu’s LinkedIn profile, indicate he now works as a product-design engineer at Santa Monica-based Snap, which owns social messaging app Snapchat, and sells a wearable product called “Spectacles.”

It’s argued that Liu’s position gave them access to “various novel Apple technologies that are embodied in Apple Vision Pro or not yet released,” with that access then abused.
Before leaving Apple, Liu was offered a job at Snap in a similar role to that held at Apple. It’s claimed that Apple was not aware of the job offer, something that meant Liu continued to be given access to documents and trade secrets.
Apple wants Liu to be forced to return stolen materials and allow the inspection of personal devices and accounts to ensure nothing else has been stolen.
