Apple Asks Federal Government to Stop iPhone Jailbreaking

Apple has approached the federal government to help stop hackers from jailbreaking the iPhone, reports NBC.

iPhone 4 Jailbreak

A spokesperson from Apple told the US Copyright Office that "Current jailbreak technologies now in widespread use utilize unauthorized modifications to the copyrighted bootloader and operating system, resulting in the infringement of the copyrights in those programs".

This action of Apple has come after Sony recently filed a lawsuit against the well known iPhone hacker Geohot for jailbreaking PlayStation 3.

It is also to be noted here that in July last year, the United States government ruled in the favor of iPhone jailbreaks and unlocks as legal, as long as they were not used for piracy purposes. Full details of this new DMCA legislation can be read here. (via iClarified)
