Apple AirPods Pro Firmware Update 2B588 Released

Apple has released a new firmware update for the new AirPods Pro. They were only released on October 30th and this is the first time an update has been made available.

The new version of the firmware is labeled 2B588 while the one that AirPods Pro shipped with was 2B584.

At the time of writing nobody knows what has gone into this update or why Apple has released it, but it’s most likely that there are fixes in there for connectivity and audio issues. Not that we’ve heard of any since the AirPods Pro were released to the public two weeks ago.

You can check which version of the AirPods Pro firmware you are using easily by opening the Settings app. Then, heading to General >About. Scroll down to the AirPods Pro entry and tap it once to see the firmware version number listed.

Unfortunately actively forcing AirPods of any description to update their firmware isn’t something that can be reliably done. The best thing to do is simply use your AirPods as normal and wait for the update to be applied organically.

The chances are good that you’re not missing out on too much, especially if you haven’t been experiencing issues with your AirPods Pro to this point. And who knows, maybe this update will create new problems of its own. Apple hasn’t had the best of luck in that regard of late.
